The Center for Educational Measurement, Inc. (CEM) successfully conducted the first of three batches of the National Merchant Marine Aptitude Test (NaMMAT) Cycle 2 across 10 test sites nationwide on March 15, 2026, with more than 6,000 examinees completing the assessment. The current administration forms part of the second NaMMAT testing cycle, following the initial rollout conducted in October 2025.
NaMMAT is a CHEd-required standardized assessment for individuals seeking admission to the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE) and Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) programs in the Philippines. The test measures foundational skills and abilities that indicate potential for success in the maritime profession, focusing on readiness for higher-level coursework rather than mastery of a specific curriculum. Part 1 evaluates personal and interpersonal attributes such as organizational aptitude, management abilities, leadership skills, and attitude, and adaptability, while Part 2 assesses academic proficiency and reasoning in English, Mathematics, Science, and Reasoning.
To expand access to maritime education, CHED fully funded this testing program which will be administered for free to qualified applicants. This is open to current Grade 12 students, SHS graduates, and college enrollees who intend to shift to maritime degree programs. Students currently pursuing a maritime course are not covered by this admission requirement. The NaMMAT follows a criterion-based system, providing guidance for admissions rather than a pass-or-fail judgment. Each Maritime Higher Education Institution (MHEI) determines its own cut-off scores based on their own Quality Standards System (QSS).
The succeeding NaMMAT administrations will be conducted on March 22 and 28 in the following test sites:
